Artboard 1

Issue 5, Sunday, September 2, 2018 workshop

Dear reader,

August is a special month at the AI for Good Foundation, because August is the month when the Association for Computing Machinery’s KDD (Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining) conference happens. KDD is the world’s largest academic conference on Data Science topics, and this year it attracted close to 4,000 people in London’s Excel.

But, why is this special for AI4Good?

In 2014, we launched the “AI for Good” movement at KDD in New York, hosting hundreds of researchers for a day of social impact focused workshops. Each year, our partnership with KDD has been getting stronger, and this year saw the greatest integration of social impact activities to date, from workshops to a social impact day to a 2 hour long plenary panel on AI for Good with 300+ attendees and live streaming.

2018 showed just how much the research community wants to get involved when given the opportunity. AI for Good is a global movement to bring technologies under the umbrella of Artificial Intelligence to bear on issues of global sustainable development. Researchers represent one side of the equation, but we also need global policy makers, NGO’s, corporations, and interested individuals to join us and help guide solutions and implementations. We need you, and the world needs you. Now, more than ever before, let’s use AI for Good.

Sincerely,
James Hodson

PS: Please join us in welcoming the latest additions to the AI for Good Foundation’s Board of Directors: Charlotte Stanton and Abe Hsuan! Charlotte and Abe were voted in at our Annual General Meeting in London.
