Support Researchers and Teachers in Ukraine.

Universities for Ukraine fellowships enable Ukraine’s scholarly community to remain in Ukraine and continue their scientific work. To date, this program has supported over 70 top researchers so far with unrestricted grants of $5,000 each. The leading fund of $150,000 has been provided by UC Berkeley in collaboration with the Ulatowski Family Foundation. Our effort has been joined by Columbia University, Duke University, Johns Hopkins University, Georgia Institute of Technology, Tulane University, University of Illinois, University of Iowa, University of Pittsburgh, Virginia Common, Wellesley College, and Yale University.

More than 300 qualified applicants are awaiting funding. The Ukrainian research community has seen drastic cuts in income due to loss of in-person teaching hours, exodus of students to Europe, and massive drops in state funding due to Russia’s invasion.

These fellowships enable Ukraine’s top brains to make the choice to remain in the country, supporting university teaching, and continuity of research labs and Ukraine-focussed scientific work. Unlike other academic grants, the U4U fellowship does not place burdensome requirements on the recipients, and does not encourage brain drain out of Ukraine.
